HOW TO START?!
Share
Do you want to make jewelry, but have no idea where to start? Then you've come to the right place! In this blog, we'll tell you everything you need to know to make the most beautiful jewelry yourself.
To start, it is useful to have the basic supplies at home. We list the most important ones:
- A bead mat , to prevent the whole house from being covered with beads rolling off the table.
- Abead board , on which you can lay out, design and measure your jewelry.
- Needles , always useful if you want to do a lot of threading.
- A storage box , to neatly store all your beads and supplies.
If you are a beginner we recommend to start making Miyuki string bracelets. This is easy and yet you can make it more difficult for yourself with different techniques.
Miyuki seed beads come in 4 different sizes, 6/0, 8/0, 11/0 and 15/0. The number before the / indicates how many Miyuki seed beads fit in an inch. That is why size 6/0 is larger than size 15/0. It is also very nice to combine the sizes with each other.
Depending on the size of the seed beads you choose, we usually recommend transparent elastic size 0.7 mm for bracelets. This easily goes through the beads and does not break easily. Do you really want to work with the Miyuki seed beads size 15/0? Then you better take elastic size 0.6 mm.
If you want to finish your bracelet nicely, we recommend our 3 mm crimp beads . You thread this crimp bead onto the elastic last. Pull both ends through and pull your bracelet on. Crimp the crimp bead flat and your bracelet is ready! You can use flat nose pliers for this.
If you want to make chains, this is a different story. To make sure your chain stays nicely round, you need steel wire . To be able to open and close your chain, you can attach a lock on one side and an extension chain on the other side. You also attach this with crimp beads.
Now that you know all about the basics, it's time to upgrade your jewelry! To make your jewelry stand out more, you can add all sorts of things to it. Beads and charms of DQ metal , gemstones , shells , polymer and so on. We often say "The more you put in between, the more fun it gets!".
We hope that you can now continue and are enthusiastic about this blog! If you still have questions, you can always email or call us.
